Austin in the spring.

 March 31, 2012

Lovely, lovely, lovely. There's nothing like a spring morning along the Barton Creek Greenbelt.

Later that afternoon, we met up with Cara and Jeff and their three daughters for dinner. As always, we loved getting to spend time with them. The girls seem to grow so much between our visits!

Along with visiting the greatest videogame store around, we also spent some time (and quarters) at Pinballz, Brett and the kids' latest addition to our Austin "must-do" list.

It's fun to see all the old games, and I especially enjoy seeing Brett share his love for the ol' silver ball with Ryan and Katie. (I also like MY tradition: While Brett and the kids get a head start on the gaming, I shop down the road at Sue Patrick!)

It was late by the time we got to our hotel that night, but Katie was itching to swim. Brett was kind enough to accompany her, but Ryan and I still got to see the cool pool lights from our comfy room.

What a great weekend! And to think, that was just Saturday!

Friday night with the cows.

In the middle of our crazy spring, we were ready for a great escape. Because the UT spring football game was on April 1, we decided on a weekend getaway to our favorite city.

Because of Texas Relays, hotel rooms were scarce and traffic was crazy, but we braved it all to get to Austin on Friday night. Our first stop: Amy's Ice Cream and the Arboretum cows.

It took us waaaay longer than three hours to get there, but it was worth it to end our week with some ice cream and cows AND to wake up in ATX the next morning!

Fun with Billy the Kidney.

Since my mom's a dialysis patient and my sister-in-law is a nurse in a dialysis unit, participating in the National Kidney Foundation's local walk was a no-brainer.

Coal needed a Sonic pit stop before the walk.

It was fun getting to meet Kelly's work friends, and it was a gorgeous morning for a brisk walk.

I LOVED this team's "Hello Kitty" logo.

Kelly's team? The Nephromaniacs!

Billy the Kidney greeted us at the finish.
