A Night with Sir Paul.

Jan. 21, 2012

It's always a treat when we can attend the FW Symphony's pops concerts with our generous friends. This performance was especially wonderful, though, because it was "Live and Let Die: The Music of Paul McCartney." Back in August we saw 1964, the Beatles tribute, so this was the perfect complement to that evening at the Bass.

And check out our bird's-eye view!

Beatles at the Bass.

The weekend between Ryan and Brett's birthdays, we were in dire need of some "family time." Because I'd been spending most of my days (and some nights) with my mom in the hospital, we had had few meals together since my return from Reno.

The guys' birthdays gave us just the excuse we needed to hit the town. First, we ate dinner at Uncle Julio's, a Fort Worth institution that Brett, the native FWer, had never visited.

Then we headed downtown to the Bass Hall to see 1964, the Beatles tribute band. (Before the show, we browsed Barnes & Noble. You wouldn't believe how many Beatles T-shirts we saw on those B&N customers!)

This wasn't our first time to hear a Beatles tribute band. We love Me and My Monkey, the local group. We've been to see them several times. Still, it was fun to catch 1964's national tour at our beloved Bass Hall.

For the second act, an orchestra joined the Fab Four, and except for the weird mic sound, it was fabulous!

Monkeying around.

Brett and I are pleased to have passed our Beatlemania down to Ryan and Katie. When I saw that Me & My Monkey, the tribute band, would be playing nearby, I knew we were so there.

After school on Friday, we picked up our traditional picnic-in-the-park food (Popeye's) and found ourselves a good spot.

We explored the crafts area for a bit before settling in for some tunes. Many more people filled the parking lot by the time the band took the stage.

The guys don't look all that much like the Fab Four, but they sound SO much like them. It was uncanny! The "Paul" guy was a real sound-twin.

It was unbelievably pleasant that evening! We had been afraid we might get rained out.

At different times during the concert, people would get up to dance. One lady in particular was REALLY feeling it.
And to think, no alcohol was permitted at the site!

The encore, "Twist and Shout," really revved up the crowd. We were sad to see the concert end.

What a fun night! Now that we know how good these guys are, we'll be looking for our next opportunity to catch their show!
