How sad that I think of the sitcom when I hear the word "community." Hmmm...
I don't know that I've really discovered a new community in 2010, but I have come to rely quite heavily on the communities I'm blessed to be a part of. In this year of loss, Facebook has been an essential part of my healing. It has been so good to share prayers, tears, laughter, anger, you name it via the social network. And then there are the in-person communities: our church family, the bunco group, book club, my lunch friends, the tailgate crew. Each of those communities feeds my soul in some way, and I'm forever grateful for the friendships that each has fostered.
As far as 2011 goes, I'm not sure my socially awkward self can think of joining a specific community as a goal. Instead of seeking out specific communities, maybe I'll just strive to be open to those new associations as they develop, to step out of that clichéd "comfort zone" and connect.
